The Gimp
Today was not such a great day. In fact, yesterday wasn't either. I decided to take the afternoon off. I got away with it because of my knee, which was the main reason I took off, in addition to the fact that it was raining, and I was tired. It all began Saturday night, when Kristin and I decided to amuse ourselves with rollerskating at Skate City's Adult Skate night. Someone was having a party there, so there was a good sized crowd, and the music was better than usual. All was going well until I lost my footing and began to fall over. Unlike my usual spills, which tend to land me on my butt, this one ended up lunging me forward, most likely because my skates weren't well oiled, and because I tried to catch myself and regain my footing (to no avail). The result was that I landed on bended knee, with the other leg sticking straight out in front of me. This could have been a successful save were it not for my final loss of balance, in which my outstretched foot tipped over and the wheels of my skate took it the rest of the way, jerking my knee in a way it was not intended to move. This was rather painful, and although I was laughing in spite of myself, I had trouble getting up and escaping the rink without a collision. Once I was clear of danger, I removed my skates and limped over to a bench. Kristin fetched me a bag of ice from the front desk and I lay with my leg in the air until she was ready to leave soon after. At home I comforted myself with an Ace bandage, more ice, ibuprofin, and a toasty boyfriend.
Sunday Brent was nice enough to rent me crutches, and I borrowed a knee brace from my mother, so that's made it a little easier to get around. Still, after sitting with my leg on a chair for roughly 8 hours yesterday, I was in no hurry to do it again, and so I felt that half a day was about as much as I could handle. I have to spend the whole day there tomorrow, unfortunately, or they'll replace me. It's alright, though. I could probably use the money...

Poor Mims! :-( I had to use a cane earlier in the year when I twisted my ankle...It made me feel like the little old woman who's really young inside in Howl's Moving Castle. (Have you seen it?)
