Mardi Gras in costume
I've been meaning to post this for a while, but haven't been at a computer long enough till now.
Last Saturday night a couple of Brent's friends had invited us to a Mardi Gras costume party at their home in Westminster. After a couple of trips to thrift store, we decided to be Night and Day. My costume was based around a set of starry patterned curtains. Brent's was bright and rainbow-colored, and we spiked his hair with a yellow tinted creme to make him look like the sun. After it was all put together we decided Brent was quite the flamer, so we changed our title to "Night and GAY." I went with a slightly gothic approach-- black lips and eyeliner, and moons and stars on my face. The idea was to be polar opposites.
The party crowd was mostly folks a bit older than us, married with kids for the most part. They served Hurricanes and a shot called an orgasm. The liquor loosened people up a bit, and soon we were all socializing and playing party games for beads. Not too much debauchery, but lots of fun.
After we left, we still felt awake enough to drive around a bit, and ended up going halfway to Boulder to get a nice view of the city lights before we headed home.

A busy week to follow a busy weekend
This entire week has been packed full of stuff. Where do I begin...
Monday Kristin picked me up from work and we went to her place to play DDR, which was fun. In the evening I talked to Erik on the phone, which was also fun.
Tuesday Kristin had to work on her paper, so I offered to make Brent dinner
after his dance class. We had zucchini casserole and rosemary fried
potatoes, and girl scout cookie ice cream for dessert...mmm...
Wednesday was valentine's day. Kristin let me use her cake decorating equipment to make the valentine cake and cupcakes which were featured in the last post. Brent had been planning a surprise that started at 7:30, so we didn't think we'd have time for dinner. However, he ended up going into work early and getting off early, so we went out to a nice Indian restaurant. We enjoyed a set-menu three-course meal, accompanied by rose-milk and mango lassie, while we sat upon cushions in a curtained booth. It was quite romantic for not even being planned.
The suprise wasn't quite as romantic. He had gotten tickets to a play at Heritage Square, which he promised would be funny, and that everyone he'd ever taken there had enjoyed it. Unfortunately this particular production left a lot to be desired, and that wasn't just my opinion--Brent agreed with me. Afer we finished bashing the play, though, we still had a pleasant evening at home enjoying each other's company.
Thursday Kristin and I had to give her mother a ride home from the mechanic. We stopped by the store to pick up discounted Valentine candy (since it was the day after) and some dinner. I helped her with her paper, since she was leaving for a conference and wouldn't have much time to work on it over the weekend. At 7:30 she gave me a ride downtown, where I was meeting Brent and my parents to see
"1001" at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. This was actually an excellent production, in contrast to the one on Valentine's Day. Very thought provoking and visually engaging and socially relevant. I recommend anyone reading this go see it.
Today was Friday, Hallelujah! I was ready for the week to be over. My cubicle buddy and I barely made it till 3:30 without falling asleep or completely zoning out. After work I had to go down to the Greenwood Village area to apply for a job, since my current assignment won't last past the end of March, most likely. The new job I applied for is also temporary, but pays better and lasts through May, and requires a bachelor's degree. Basically I would be grading essays on standardized tests. It requires some actual thought, so I suspect it would be slightly more interesting than what I'm doing now. The only downside is that it's far away, so I will have to ride Lightrail there, unless Brent and I are able to carpool (his job is only about a mile from there, weirdly enough).
Jenn and I had planned to do something tonight, since Kristin is out of town. We'd agreed on dancing, because we knew it was ladies' night a few places and we could get in free. I took a nap so I'd be refreshed, and Jenn started reading something and got distracted. She'd planned to arrive here around 10:00, but called my about 11:00 and hadn't left yet, so we decided to call it off. We think we'll see each other tomorrow, most likely.
Anyway, that's the end of my week. Now it's on to the weekend at full force, so I must get a good night's rest.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Just a quick look at how I used my afternoon...
I'll write more about it later.
A good weekend
That last post was only a sample of the treats last weekend held for me and my cohorts.
Thursday night Brent and I finally got around to using a coupon we had for a free salsa lesson. Kristin and Tabitha came too, and the four of us made merry over beer and burritos, then learned some sexy dance moves. They made us rotate partners, so everyone got to dance with practically everyone else on the floor. This was challenging, but ultimately helpful, and everyone seemed to have a good time.
Friday night we all felt like dancing again, so Kristin, Brent and I invited Jenn along (Tabitha was working) and the four of us went out to Club Vinyl. Unfortunately it was a bit dead there, and they only had one dance floor open (our least favorite) so we moved on. It worked out that only Brent had to pay cover (Lady's night) so we didn't lose too much money on that. We migrated to a lounge/bar called Funky Buddha, had a drink, then went down to The Church as a last resort. The Church, as it turned out, was hopping, so we stayed there the rest of the night until about 1:30 or 2. At that point we were all hungry so we went to a local place called McCoy's for late night munchies. Everyone went home full, happy, and tuckered out from dancing.
Saturday Brent and I went thrift storing to find costumes for a mardi gras party. Kristin tagged along, then in the afternoon we two girls ended up taking an impromtu road trip to Pueblo to visit her grandmother. I liked her; she was a character, and she gave me chocolate cake and a plant.
Sunday I wanted to go to the mountains. After some grocery shopping with Kristin's mom, the infamous trio (Kris, Brent and I) drove up to Lookout Mountain in Brent's car. We mostly drove around, but stopped in at the nature center a bit. We saw some deer on the way down. When we reached School of Mines there was debate of where to go next, and my half-joking suggestion of Idaho Springs was taken seriously, so we spent the late afternoon in the hot springs. No one had brought a swim suit, so we opted for a private bath and went nude. It was quite relaxing and steamy, and Kristin and I noticed our skin was very soft from the minerals today.
So that was my atypically full weekend of wonder. I only hope its pleasantness carries over to the week ahead.
Brent on Lookout Mountain. Isn't he a cutie?
A new job...sort of...
My position with the prepping section in the Department of Revenue has ended. When I went to my temp agency to get a new position, they asked if I would be interested in another opening in the same building, still with the Dept of Revenue, but this time in a different section. I decided to take it, since I already know the ropes of the building, how long it takes to get there, how the hours work, and so forth. I was halfway hoping my next assignment would pay more, but I'm getting by just fine on $9 an hour, so I'll take it for now.
I started the new job this week. The work is similar: sorting and batching paperwork, which there is no shortage 0f now that tax season has begun. The only difference is the type of paperwork we sort, and that there are a few extra steps involved, such as dividing up W2s from their accompanying processing forms, and highlighting account numbers, and the like. I'm in a cubicle now, instead of in an open room. This means rather than being amongst a group of people, it's more private. The only person I talk to throughout the day is the other temp who shares my cubicle. He's quite sociable and has a good sense of humor, so we get along. He's also been there for two weeks already, so he can answer my questions that come up. Other than that, people will occassionally stop by and peak over the top of the cubicle and ask us things, or say hi, or something like that. The rest of the time we spend in silence, listening to music over headphones to make the menial labor pass more quickly.
It pays the rent. That's all I care about right now. It isn't particularly stressful aside from the fact that I have to wake up at 5:30 AM...*dyuuughughughhh* (Sideshow Bob shuddering impression)
