Gooseberry Pie and Gingerbread Cookies

My next photostory dates back to a few days before Christmas. I made my first pie crust. Mama mixed up a gooseberry filling from frozen garden berries, and together we made a very tasty pie. I believe we ate it after a roast goose, appropriately enough. Everyone agreed I did a good job on the crust, and since that is the more difficult part of the pie, I felt rather proud of myself.

Christmas Eve we finally got around to making our traditional batch of gingerbread cookies. Unlike the old days, when we used to add the decorations before baking, we took the frosting approach this time, and thus decorated them after they were baked and cooled. It resulted in fewer burnt raisins and exploded red-hots, so I suppose it was a good choice. Sallie appears to be happily nestled amongst the plethora of cookies.
