New Sheets!
Ok, so this is a silly reason for a blog, but my new sheets make me happy! They actually FIT my bed, unlike the one's I had before, thus they won't fall off while I sleep. Plus, they are a shade of blue that matches my room. So dorky, I know. Well, here they are...let me know if they make anyone else happy. ;-)
When Greta loses her makeup...
A few weeks ago I was riding the lightrail with an overnight bag. Being skatterbrained, I had to change trains and naturally forgot to bring the bag with me. D'oh! Fortunately I didn't lose anything of much value, just a set of clothes and my makeup bag. This, however, left me with only my stage makeup... In case you can't imagine the result, here's what I look like when I put it on...pretty scary, but still lots of fun. :-)
Jenn had a lot of spare makeup and was nice enough to give me all the stuff she wasn't using, so I don't look like this on a normal basis.
I know I shouldn't be so vain, but a creative mind likes to alter the appearance as much as it alters everything else.
New Years Day Dinner
Now we skip ahead to January 1st, 2007. Karen was in town so we decided it would be nice to have all the old middle school friends (plus Brent) together for dinner at my apartment. It felt nice to have people over at my new place.
It was nice to have all four of us together again, since it happens so rarely.
Jenn made pasta casserole with lots of veggies and cheese.
Brent shows the camera how yummy it was!
Jenga Night
Since I'm kind of skipping all over time with these stories, it's only appropriate that this one comes even earlier than the last. This was Friday, the 15th of December. My parents were out of town for the weekend, so Sallie and I were watching the house. Brent and I had finished tango lessons at the Mercury Cafe, and Sallie had come back from dinner with her friends, so the three of us decided to have a game night. Among the games were Racko, Master Mind, and of course Jenga. In spite of the fact that Brent and I had a couple of drinks, we managed to make a taller Jenga tower than any of us had ever seen. I just had to capture the occasion with my camera, or I feared no one would believe me.
Gooseberry Pie and Gingerbread Cookies
My next photostory dates back to a few days before Christmas. I made my first pie crust. Mama mixed up a gooseberry filling from frozen garden berries, and together we made a very tasty pie. I believe we ate it after a roast goose, appropriately enough. Everyone agreed I did a good job on the crust, and since that is the more difficult part of the pie, I felt rather proud of myself.
Christmas Eve we finally got around to making our traditional batch of gingerbread cookies. Unlike the old days, when we used to add the decorations
before baking, we took the frosting approach this time, and thus decorated them after they were baked and cooled. It resulted in fewer burnt raisins and exploded red-hots, so I suppose it was a good choice. Sallie appears to be happily nestled amongst the plethora of cookies.
Finally some photos
I've just uploaded a batch of photos from my digital camera, and I decided they would nicely accompany some stories of things that have happened lately. Besides, who doesn't like pictures?
The first one was taken just now, outside my apartment. When I came outside this morning it was like being in a fantasy world. The snow is falling very slowly and softly, which is why you can actually see individual snowflakes in the photo. I also took a picture of the snow on the stairs, so you can see how fluffy it is even after it falls.
New stuff! It's going on now!
Sorry, I just thought I needed a snappy title to catch everyone's attention. However, it is true, in that new things have been happening in my life lately.
For instance, the reason I haven't blogged in a while is that I have an iffy internet connection (I either have to steal wireless or dial onto my parents' account...yeah, I'm cheap). The reason my internet connection is iffy is that I have a new apartment. It's exciting! I've been here since the 27th of December, but I only just got everything settled the way I like it. I just have to put up posters and the place will feel like home.
I also have a job. I applied to work through a temp agency downtown, so they currently have me sorting forms for the Colorado Department of Revenue (i.e. where everyone's state income tax and sales tax goes). It's boring in that it's a repetitive, fairly simple task. However, I find inspiration in the things I can learn from it: how our tax system works, the names of some small businesses throughout the state, how ugly government buildings are in the basement... anyway it's just for two weeks, so I think I'll be able to inspire myself through that short time. Afterwards, I hope the temp agency will have a new assignment for me and then it'll be onto something new and...exciting. It gets me by, and that's all I care about.
Things with Brent are going swimmingly. We each had a birthday recently, so there have been things to celebrate. Now that my apartment's all set up he comes to visit a lot. We watch videos (VHS only, until I get a DVD player), make food, and find other sources of random amusement that only two crazies like us could find enjoyable. Tonight we're going salsa dancing, so I'll have to be off now.
