Hawaii

Second H post in a row. Oh well.

The short story is that we have tickets to Hawaii for Thanksgiving weekend. The long story is how we got them.

Brent has 2 weeks vacation saved up at work. If he doesn't use them by the end of the year, they re-set. He gets paid for the time if he doesn't use it, but he decided to take one week off to rest his soul, and get paid for the other week. Since he's going to have a week off, we decided to look at options for a trip we could take together during that time. Randomly, just to see how expensive it was, we decided to check prices for Hawaii tickets. Surprisingly, they were only about $450 apiece, including hotel! We were amazed, but decided to think it over before jumping on them. Unfortunately, by the next day, they had gone up $100 each, and by the following day, another $100. Our dreams were squashed, until Brent remembered a friend at work who works for United Airlines. He inquired about insider deals, and found out we could get tickets through the co-worker for about the same price we had originally seen, once we added in the cost of the hotel on its own. We decided to go ahead and book them. With Thanksgiving coming up, I have a paid holiday anyway, and if I take two vacation days at the beginning of the following week, we can stay in Honolulu for five days. So that's what we're doing.

We've paid the guy for the tickets, since they get deducted from his paycheck, and we've booked our hotel for the weekend. Aside from a guidebook we checked out at the library, we haven't made any other solid plans. We'll take it as it comes, I guess. Some time on the beach, a visit to the international market, maybe a batch of loco moco or some spam, along with plenty of fresh tropical fruit, and I think our trip will be a success. If anyone has any gift requests, speak now!
