Through October – Boulder Public Library * NEW*
Photographs from Africa and the Beadforlife project are on display through
the end of October on the bridge at the Boulder Public Library near the
café.

Community of Sudanese and American Women/Men (CSAW)

Southern Sudanese Arts Festival will be taking place at the Boulder Public
Library Gallery. This event is hosted by the Community of Sudanese and
American Women/Men (CSAW) with the support of the Boulder Library
Foundation. The festival will feature an exciting range of art-including
needlework by Lost Girl Micklina Pia Peter, photogranphs of the people and
places of Southern Sudan by Lost Boy Issac Bher, and portraits of Southern
Sudanese people by local artist Evi Bassoff. All artwork will be available
for purchase on Saturday and Sunday, and proceeds from sales will be shared
by CSAW and the artists. On October 21st guests are invited to participate
in a day long-celebration of Southern Sudanese culture, featuring food,

Capoeira N’gola

Capoeira Angola is a martial art, a dance and a musical expression. It is an
art form more than 400 years old. The practice was developed by African
slaves in Brazil for self-defense, disguised as dance. The practice of
Capoeira integrates the mind, body and spirit. The movement of Capoeira
flows in a circular form; it uses space as the microcosm of the universe.
Students in this course will be introduced to the basic movements, the
music, philosophy and spiritual components of the art form over the course
of ten weeks. No prior experience is necessary. Some strenuous activity.
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing suitable for movement.

Usamah Zaid (“Baba Ogungi”) has been a student and practitioner of Capoeira
for more than twenty years. He has studied with notable masters such as Bira
Almeida, Manles Comminuto, NegoGato and No. He also teaches Capoeira to
young people as a medium for conflict resolution in Denver Public Schools.

HOPE Bracelet Project with be having their FIRST PICK PARTY. The
organization brings bracelets that have been put together by children/young
adults of Yetebon Ethiopia and sell them in the states for the price of
$100.00 which is the average annual income of someone living in Addis Ababa.
The event will take place at Strings Restaurant, 1700 Humboldt St. Denver.

The AfricAid Kids Team (AKT) will be hosting its second annual “AfricAid
Holiday Bazaar” at the Evergreen Garden Center in Colorado. AKT was formed
a year and a half ago so that local youth who recognized the needs of
Tanzanian schools and students could take the initiative to help improve
Massai students’ schooling and educational opportunities. They will be
selling African crafts such as traditional Massai jewelry, woven baskets,
batiks, and other handmade beaded jewelry. The bazaar will be held at the
Evergreen Garden Center, located at 26479 HWY 74 in Kittredge.
